I have a user who is a practice manager of a surgery, who uses Word version 6, and all of her email comes into an onsite Exchange 5.5 server, via the Internet Mail Connector. Unfortunately the attachments, received from her local health authority, when read by her wordprocessor, show as squares, not readable text. These documents are read as DOC documents, not Rich text. How can I get these attachments to be legible under Word 6.0? Does the sending Exchange server have to tweaked, or the receiving one? Advice please!

options:Have her update her Office Version to whatever version she's receiving files in - - Cannot open office 97 doc with office 95 software. Backwards compat not supported - although there are converters available - just not by default. Save the documents that are send to this person as RTF or save as word 6.0 file - these options are in the "save as file type" pulldown... A sense of humor can make things easier - this is a basic help desk issue - an exchange admin should not be spending this much time with what I consider to be a trivial issue. Is the IMC converting my text into squares? Is the tunnel I drove through changing the color of my car from red to blue? Just to recap: user is trying to open a document for which she doesn't have the correct viewer.

You may consider it a trivial issue , but this is the sort of thing that puts users off email, (as does your attitude and poor people skills) and this is a typical problem that users experience everyday. If I answered the user with what you have just told me, I wouldn`t be in my job very long. We are there to help them, not to lord it over them in an offhand manner, please bear that in mind, and try to be more professional in your outlook and manner.

Apologies, Jose, it`s just that I`ve had a few stupid timewasters giving me sarcastic answers.Didn`t mean to upset you, I apologise unreservedly. Thanks anyway.
