After a server die due to disk's failing at the same time I had to implement a DR recovery. I built a new server the same name then installed Exchange in DR mode. The problem I'm having is as my back up of the information store is dead as well some luck I'm having. So now all I need is to get a new exchange server working so I can get mail flow working again. But when I try and remove exchange I'm getting this error

The component Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services cannot be assigned the action "remove" because: You must use the same edition of Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Setup (Enterprise or Server) as the existing installation.

The old server was services pack two and so is this one!!! Any help welcome

Hi,

I think the only option is to remove Exchange manually.

Hi Jveldh I did just that removed Exchange manually which went well, but I've got a hunch that the problem was a second domain controller in the forest was on Windwos Server 2003 with no service pack's and the one I had Exchange on was Windwos Server SP2. I'm going to build a VMware lab test and post me results as there is no info on that error on the net to help others!

Hmmm... this is good info:

By the PFDavadmin tool, do the steps below

a Click file-Connect
b Input your Exchange Server name, at the connection tab, please select all
mailboxes.
c The tool will list all the mailboxes which have not been moved, move these
mailboxes to another machine and then remove the Exchange Server.
