I have a small problem with backing up my public folders, I can't select certain folders to be backed up at brick level! I use back exec v9 and we all think there is a problem with permissons in exchange where does one start looking? (exchange 2000 sp3) [ May 18, 2004, 05:32 PM: Message edited by: rcwadsworth ]

I use BackupExec 9.1 and have noticed a similar problem. I have 7 public folders listed in Exchange system manager, I noticed when doing a restore that they were not listed on any of the restore tapes. I then go to schedule a backup job to see which public folders I can choose to backup and only 1 is listed.
Did you find the solution to this ? Was it permissions related. I am going to check the permissions between the "working" public folder (the 1 that is available for backup) and the others.

Sounds like the account that BE is running under does not have permissions to those folders.
For our Exchange backups I use my Exchange admin account which is an Exchange Full admin as well as a domain admin to be sure BE has rights to all objects being backed up.

I found that, on the Public folders where I had set anonymous and default acess to 'none' (permissions granted only to specific groups) this 'none' permission also applied to the account my backup job was using, even though it was delegated as full exchange administraor.
If I added rights to this account specifically, the folders are available for backup.
I find it a little odd that this account is covered by the default = none change I made when it is a delegated full administrator and has the rights to manage permissions to the same folder. The default permissions for "default" are author though so maybe most people don't change this and don't notice the problem.
