Hi
I've just made an offline defrag of my priv1.edb and pub1.edb files after moving many mailboxes (they reduced about half their size) and replaced these files with the new temp files (I still have the original files).

I can open all the old items fine, and I can send/receive messages, but I can't open them. I can't open any item made after the offline defrag.
I've made the full online backup of the information store and checked for errors with isinteg.exe.

What can I do?

Hi

Before we go to far is this a production or test system ? If production I would suggest to do a restore since something stuffed up in the defrag. Have you tried the repair option with eseutil ?

Hi, I solved the problem uninstalling the Symantec antivirus for Exchange (I was a little desperate, yes it's a production system!). Who knows what this antivirus was doing to the database, but after uninstalling and installing it everything is ok, and the defragmented database works fine.
Any suggestions on what happened? what should I do with this antivirus software before I attempt another defrag?

Stop the services before a defrag and never scan the M: drive!

Hello,

Follow KB 245822 to exclude exchange folders from file level scanning.

Apply latest Post SP from KB 836488.

Update AV scanning Engine.
