I finished setting up an exchange server and was doing some internal email testing to see if exchange server is working. The test mail that I was sending is not being recieve on the other end. What do you think is the problem? Thanks.

Are you able to send internal mail?
- If not, ensure that you are selecting the user from the GAL (Global Address List). Track the message using message tracking and see where the message went. If you received an NDR (Non-deliver report), what does the message say?

Are you able to send yourself a message?
- If not, verify that you have recipient policies configured with the default values and update the RUS (recipient Update Service).

Where is the message? Track the message! If it is sitting in your Outbox, disable all AV and Backup services.

Are you able to send to the Internet? If not, do you receive a message back (NDR)? If so, what does it say?

Test using Q153119 (http://support.microsoft.com/) to send yourself and the remote domain (using Q203204) a test message. This will tell you the error on the screen. If you can send a test message using telnet but not through Exchange then the configuration is screwed up.

Verify that ALL Default SMTP VS settings are default and that you have NO CONNECTORS!
Install W2K Sp2 and E2k Sp2.

This will get you started...good luck!

Thank you for replying. I tried sending email on my own by I cannot recieven back the email. The email is not in the outbox it is already in the sent items folder. you said that I would need to update the RUS. Where can I find the RUS and how will I update it. I will update you if there are still some problems again. Thank you for the help again.

I can now send and recieve test email internally. Thanks for the help. The problem is I placed an SMTP connector on the connector setting. One more thing, When I setup exchange 2000 I chose the typical setup after the installation I noticed that there is no IMC connector available at the connectors setting of the Exchange system Manager. How will I add the IMC? will I run the exchange setup again?

IMC: Do you mean internet Mail connector? In exchange 2000 you do not need it, since it uses the same SMTP server to send mails to the internet.

By default Exchange 2000 can send mail to the internet without an "IMC". If you so choose one, go to the connectors container and right click and select SMTP Connector. The name does not matter, use DNS, select you SMTP Virtual Server, and configure the Address Space for "*".

This will give you a SMTP Connector.

What client are you using? Does the mail leave your mailbox? Still are you able to send a mail to yourself at least?
