i did a fresh install of exchange 2003 (sp2) on win2003. after installation, i immediately moved the database file locations to a different drive for the mailbox and public stores, as well as the log files for the storage group via the exchange system manager. everything mounted ok. but after this i am unable to expand the public folder tree, receiving the error... quote:
The operation failed because of an http error 501 (not implemented). Verify that the exadmin virtual root exists on the destination server. ID no: c1030af7 i followed the steps in this KB article, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;839744, deleting the exadmin folder, deleting the directory service metabase component, and restarting iis/mta's... but still receiving the same error. i have been searching for a fix for this for days and still have no idea whats wrong. any help would be much appreciated!

1) Stop the default web site in IIS manager. 2) Configure the Exchange Virtual server web site in the following way: open IIS manager; right-click the Exchange Virtual server web site and click properties; ensure that the IP address is set "All Unassigned"; ensure that the TCP port is set to 80; click Advanced; make sure that there is one blank host header in the list and in the top. 3) Restart the IIS Admin service - please run iisreset in a command prompt ; check if you can expand public folders in Exchange System Manager (ESM).

ok that sorta worked... let me explain. i am running iis on port 81 and ssl 443, i am running it on non-standard http port as i prefer using apache server for normal web hosting and iis only for owa. i have all the exchange stuff set to ssl only (owa, etc works fine). if i stop apache and leave iis on 81 it works, if i set it back to "require ssl" now i am getting "The SSL certificate name is invalid" error when trying to expand the public fodlers, i created a new certificate with the correct netbios name (which happens to be "server") and still getting this error. i hope this isnt too confusing, i know its a weird configuration.

a known issue huh, thats not cool. i completely reinstalled the certificate authority to verify the DC, etc... and recreated the certificate once again, issued iisreset, and still same error. i must say this is quite frustrating. so there is no work-around for this? i really appreciate all your help on this, i have gotten a lot closer to resolving this, and definitely have a clearer understand of the issue.

This issue may occur in the following situations: • You do not have the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the server on the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate. • An SSL certificate is incorrectly published to the Exadmin virtual root in Internet Information Services (IIS).

Backup the IIS. Uninstall the certificates from IIS and also uninstall the certificate service from the box Check whether you are able to browse OWA and also can able to expandbPF from ESM Install certificate service and ensure that the common name is used as like you in the internet like external OWA address Then try it out

if one problem goes another problem occur... if you try to access the ESM from the remote computer by just installing esm tool. any event generated in application log.... rebooting the server can resolve it. Today i tried it on my lab and it is working fine...
