Hello, The applicaton event logs on the server show mulitple 474's and 1025 errors. I read on MSKB that this is probably caused by "physical corruption" - I am not 100% sure what that means? and also what is the primary cause of this?
Any help is appreciated.
Regards,
Shariq

What you have read is correct. Each 4K page of data has a checksum written in the header of the page when it is committed to disk. When Exchange accesses that page again, it will recalculate the checksum and compare it to what is written in the header. What you are seeing are checksums that do not match.
This is usually caused by faulty hardware such as a SCSI controller card or a hard disk going bad.
Check your System and Application logs on your Exchange server for errors concerning disk or controller card errors.
Steps to resolve: Restore from backup or run ESEUTIL /P and ISINTEG -FIX You could also try to move the mailboxes to another Exchange server in the same site.
The important thing is to correct the hardware problem. If you don't, the -1018 errors will just come back.

Additional information on the error code in MSKB 327334. My experience was a faulty memory chip causing file corruption when writing to the hard drive.

Just because you replace a faulty hard drive, the information stores will not automatically fix themselves. The data that was written incorrectly probably still is written incorrectly.
I suggest that you create another Mailbox store and move the existing mailboxes to it. The corruption will not follow. Note that you can only do this if you have the enterprise version of Exchange installed.
Method 2 would be to use EXMERGE to export all the mailbox data to PST files. Then stop the Information Store service and rename the Mailbox Information store. When the Information Store service is restarted, a new mailbox store will be created. You can then use EXMERGE to push the data back into the new database.
