After a problem that has been causing at this stage undiagnosed grey screen freezes during the night the last few nights, requiring a hard reboot to get the server up again, my exchange information stores priv1.edb and pub1.edb are now unmounted. If I try mounting them through server management I get an error dialog "The database files in this store are corrupted ID no c104173b Exchange System Manager" In the application event log, after the database engine started a new instance, I get an error event 465 from ESE: "Information Store (7120) First Storage Group: Corruption was detected during soft recovery in logfile C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\E00.log. The failing checksum record is located at position END. Data not matching the log-file fill pattern first appeared in sector 7775 (0x00001E5F). This logfile has been damaged and is unusable. " Using Eseutil both databases are in dirty shutdown state. How should I proceed? Tony.

okay, so I renamed E00.log E00.log.old, similarly E00.chk. Then I copied the latest log file and renamed the copy E00.log. Then I did a eseutil /r on the E00 which replayed the log files but failed with an unexpected error, leaving priv1.edb up to date, but still dirty shutdown. Then I did a eseutil /p on priv1.edb, making it clean shutdown. then I deleted all the log files (I had them multiply backed up) and remounted priv1.edb from server manager. Good. But pub1.edb is still dirty, and when I try to do a eseutil /p on it, I get an error dialog : "unable to find the callback library jcb.dll (or one of its dependencies). Copy the file in and hit ok to retry or hit cancel to abort." jcb.dll is present in the c:\program files\exchsrvr\bin directory, but I copied it to the c:\program files\exchsrvr\mdbdata directory where the pub1.edb file is, but this made no difference. Weird. Any suggestions? Tony

...talking to myself a bit here, but maybe It'll be helpful for others. Or let me know if I could have done this a better way. Tried putting the path c:\program files\exchsrvr\bin into the path variable as suggested in experts exchange, but it didn't make any difference. Restored a copy of jcb.dll to c:\program files\exchsrvr\bin to overwrite the old copy and bingo eseutil /p worked on priv1.edb and I could mount it. Now to a backup and why is this server hanging in the first place... Not the forum to discuss this here. Tony.

Corruption in log files creates a very big problem. This issue leaves the database into inconsistent state and users reach at the data loss stage. It is highly recommended that transaction log files should be kept a secure and separate location so that it could help during the database recovery.
