I am stuck at a position where i couldnt remove the exchange 5.5 from a exchange 2000 site.

My scenario :

Windows 2000 DC in mixed mode, exchange 2000 joined in exchange 5.5 site.

The migration of mailbox was perfect using move mailbox method.

No mail boxes are in the exchange 5.5 except system attendent

Before removing the exchange 5.5 from the site, I change the incomming & outgoing route of mail to new exchange 2000 and the mail routing is working fine too.

But during the process of disabling the exchange5.5 information store services the system stucked. I rebooted it & then tried again to remove the services but not sucessful, getting an error. because of this i cannot delete the old exchange5.5.I even tried to remove it from network but couldnt succeed. I am getting an error in exchange 5.5 system manager which
i have installed in exchange 2000. when i click on exchange 5.5 computer and try to delete it says
error "******* exchange server abc is still active please shut down the server & try again".

Now everytime an outlook client connect, they get a screen saying updating data from server abc(5.5) which is removed from the network at present & the outlook gets stuck for sometime before this process is not over.

Can anyone help me out how to remove the exchange 5.5 from this situation
