my database is only 3gb, but my disk usage space is 14gb. Why the difference? I'm running Exchange 5.5 w/ SP2 and I'm concern about hitting my 16gb limit. Thanks

Are you backing up your databases? If not and you aren't using circular logging your log files are probably taking up a large portion of your disk. If you do back-up are you sure the log files are being flushed? How large are the PRIV and PUB? How large is your Directory? If they are 3 GB then I would think there is no reason to worry.

Also check any logging settings. SMTP Protocol logging, among others, can chew up a lot of disk space over time.

Thanks for the info. My PRIV and PUB with config files only add up to 3GB. My logs are on a different drive (no circular logging) and the system is backed up every night. As for SMTP logging where are they stored? I added up all the directory size and only totaled 3.2GB.

If you have an IMC in your org there is an option to enable message tracking (logging). What this actually does is place a text copy of every SMTP message on your disk. As Jeff said, over time this can chew up your disk. I can't remember off the top of my head what directory the log/tracking defaults to.

Everything checked out. I added every folder size and only came up with 3.2GB, yet my disk usage is 14GB. Amount of free space is decreasing. No circular login and I'm backing up every night.

Check here: \\Exchange\C$\exchsrvr\tracking.log for tracking logs. Otherwise, I'd check each folder one at a time to find the culprit.Chris ------------------ Chris Megginson, MCSE, CNA

Exchange 5.5 has no limit on the size of its database.
