I am ready to start removing my exchange 5.5 server. I have followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822450 and am at step 13. We have let the replication of public folders for about a month an a half. My question is, the KB article doesn't say anything about removing the replicas, but from past experience in with removing 5.5 servers I have been removing the replicas that point to the exchange 5.5 server using the pfmigrate tool. Should I also remove the replicas on the system folders as well before I shut down the 5.5 server to make sure I didn't miss any thing? Also in thinking ahead after I remove the exchange 5.5 server at what point to I remove the connection agreements in the ADC and remove the ADC. I have read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272314/ and the repeat alot of the same steps and I want to make sure I do the steps properly.

hi, If you are thinking about replica, yes we need to remove the replica otherwise you won't able to decomission it gracefully. When we are talking about system folder we schedule free busy and oab which is created during the first installation of exchange server. As i said replica need to remove so we have to do it but along with that there is some information regarding first server role that is gold site folder server which need to point to the new server as our first server going to be out. you can find it through adsiedit => Configuration => services => Exchange => Org => go to the property of site name and search for site folder server it might point to your exchange 5.5. If you are not able to perform the above activity you can do forceable stamping information that is called guidgen tool.

Ismail, Thanks for the reply. I am talking about replicas of the system folders, free/busy and OAB. When I install my exchange 2003 server into the 55 org I used the pfmigrate tool to create replicas of all my pubilc folders and system folders. Now that I have moved all of my mailboxes off the exchange 5.5 server and let the public/system folders replicate I want to shut down exchange 5.5 for a few weeks to make sure I haven't missed anything before going any further. Like I said I have been using the pfmigrate tool to remove the public folders replicas that point to the 5.5 server on the 2k3 server. I will check the adsiedit when I get to work tomorrow, however I tried following you steps on my test machines here at home and can't find the sitefolderserver property, I went to adsiedit => configuration => cn=configuration, dc=... => cn=services => cn=Microsoft Exchange => right clicked on cn=org and didn't see any property named sitefolderserver maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but I will check the server at work to make sure. If this is an important step is there a MS article that explains about this, as I don't remember reading aything about it.

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply the last few days have been busy. Anyway I found the sitefolderserver attribute on cn = Microsoft exchange => cn=org => cn= administrative groups => sitename and it was pointed to my exchange 5.5 server public information store. I assume I need to change this to the name of my 2k3 public information store. One other question I was looking in the exchange 5.5 settings and under site addressing the routing calc server is set to my 5.5 server, I know when moving 5.5 servers this was important to change, does this need to be changed in 2k3 as well?
