Deleted accounts are still receiving mail.  How does one clear this from the system permanently?

Please give more information... Do you mean you're getting emails coming addressed to that person, which are bounced? Or is the mailbox not been purged and is still growing?

Emails are coming in for those people which are bounced via Administrator account. Accounts are purged from the system.

I'm still not clear what you are describing.  If the Email address no longer exists in your organization, then any inbound message to it should receive a "bounce" (Non-Delivery Report or NDR) stating that there is no such recipient.

What are you seeing, and what are you expecting to have happen instead?

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.
Subject: cosmic ordering
Sent: 19/01/2007 12:50

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
farrah.ghani@cstm.org.uk on 19/01/2007 13:22
The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.
<mail.cstm.org.uk #5.1.1>

This is the message I get for accounts that are purged from the system as people have left.

Assuming the address listed below is the account you purged, this is exactly what should be returned to someone attempting to send a message to it.  The message says, "no such address".

Using old-fashioned snail-mail as an analogy, you have been corresponding to a friend.  One day his house is removed so that an Expressway on-ramp can be constructed.  The street address no longer exists.  You send a post to him.  What would you expect the Post Office to do with your letter?

It sounds like there is a contact group created and people are trying to send to that group but that account no longer exists. Update the contact group and make sure there is no one listed that no longer exists

Brian226 makes a good point.  If your question is regarding internal users getting bounces, then find the user object in ADUC, go to the Member Of tab and remove everything except for what is listed as Primary group at the bottom of the window (you can't remove that one anyway).

Also, another issue commonly encountered is when the exited user was a delegate to someone else's mailbox (typically the calendar).  You have to remove the reference in Outlook logged in as the delegating user.  An additional quirk of the system is that even if there are no longer people listed on the Delegates page, if the box at the bottom "Send meeting requests..." is checked (it could even be grayed out), it may still attempt to forward meeting requests to ex-delegates who have been removed.

Hi,
We also have similar problem in our company.  The ex-coworkers' e-mail accounts were deleted and we got spam for those accounts and one guy at work is getting all the bounced back mails.  He is tired of getting those e-mails.  Can anyone tell me how to stop those e-mails?  Thanks.

Tell me about the messages this one guy is getting.  Who are they from?  Who were they supposed to go to?  Are the bounces the result of internal messages or messages from the outside world?

Hi uemurad,

"Can you check in the settings of the mail server.  It looks like any mail that comes to xxx@ourdomain.com  that doesn't have a valid address comes to me.  So, whenever there is some spam for XXX or VVV , it gets routed to my inbox.  Can you turn this off?"

The above message is from my cowoker telling me this problem.
I'll have him forward me some e-mails that he got.  He's currently travel in India.  I'll post it asap.

Thanks.

In the ESM, go to Global Settings and bring up the properties of Message Delivery.  On the Recipient Filtering tab check the box "Filter recipients who are not in the Directory".

Right now the setting under the filtering are

Filter messages with blank sender is checked
Accept messages without notifying sender of filtering is checked.

Should I Add excoworker@ourdomain.com in the filter list?

You're looking at the Sender Filtering tab.  The setting I mentioned is on the Recipient Filtering tab.

When turning on some of the features described above (recipient sender filtering: Filter Recipients who are not in the Directory) i get the following message:

"Connection, Recipient, Sender ID, and Sender Filtering must manually be enabled on specific SMTP virtual server IP address assignments as they are not enabld by default.   For more information on how to enable any of the above filtering types, read their associated help."

Does this mean the feature is not on yet?  When i checked the help as described i did not find anything helpful.  If it is not on how do you turn it on?  Thanks!
