Hi,

Can you tell me what difference between cracked & licensed exchange 2003.

One of my friend using cracked exchange 2003 (500 users) in LAN only & now he is planning to live the same on internet. So it will work as live mail server?

Hello,

We are a little unclear on your question, taking it as it is written your friend is using an unlicensed copy of Exchange 2003, which when explaining the main differences means that the licensed copy he is legally allowed to use, whereas the "cracked" copy is illegal, and to be honest not many people here will be able to provide any support for the situation.

However if you are saying that your friend is using a "trial" version of Exchange which will timeout after 120 days then they need to look at purchasing licensed copy very soon, and not put it into production.

but he is using since more than 120 days (6 to 7 month)

Has he paid for it, and do you know if he has license certificate, if he were to get a visit from Microsoft could he demonstrate that he bought it and has rights to use it? if not then he should not be using the software at all.

the only thing you will lose is Microsoft Support

Fars, with respect it is also important to point out that the copy of Exchange might be being used illegally, which is not appropriate, we have paid for our copies of Exchange and get support here - I think that it is also worth while pointing out that technically you don't get support from MS without a contract - unless you can prove that it is a bug, and often if it is not referenced in the knowledge base Microsoft will want payment up front.

I am worried that by telling this chap that all his friend will lose is "Microsoft Support" will damage all of us, think about it - illegal copies of Exchange will in the end mean more money for us to pay out to supplement the people that don't pay.

I may be wrong, ITGuy's friend might be totally legitimate, but I can only go by what the post says - and to me, at the moment it would seem that he is using an unlicensed copy of Exchange - if someone were to tell me that the copy is OK then I will help him to the very best of my ability.

My company (through my advice) recently spent �500,000 on a Microsoft Enterprise agreement - therefore I do believe in licensed software - and I have values when it comes to supporting people that do not pay and my view is that facts should be established prior to engaging in something wrong.

I think that as professionals we need to uphold this, and not condone the minority that make it harder for the rest of us.

ITGuy, if I have done you or your friend a disservice I will apologies on this forum, but I need to know for certain that the software is OK.

and another thing
That is these copy that you get from a Totally untrusted source can contain viruses and spy ware that spy on your Mail system and get important information

In short, that cracked version of exchange 2003 will work live on internet but he will not get support from Microsoft
