Hello All, I just upgraded a server to Windows 2000 today. Essentially my OWA server. Still running OWA 5.5 on it. Before when using NT4.0, in order for me to be able to just type in the username to logon to the OWA, I had to make sure that "Log on Locally" applied to everyone. Now that I've upgraded to Win2K Server, I have to type in domain\username and then the password in order to get in. Does anyone know where to set the "Log on Locally" rights to everyone in Win2K Server ?
Thanks in advance, J.H

you should be able to grant logon locally by adding domain users group to the local users group.
To do this, simply right click on "My Computer" and left click on "Manage". This will take you to Computer Management where you can see "Local Users and Groups". Tree down to group and you'll see a "Users" group. Just add "Domain Users" to this group and you should be set.

I don't think it's a "Log on Locally" / rights issue, especially since they can log on to OWA if they type in their credentials as domain\username. If they did that and it didn't work, you might have a case for "log on locally" being an issue (but more than likely, it would be the web server's authentication account, not the individual user's problem). Enabling normal users to log on locally to your server(s) is generally a bad idea. Even as "users," they still possess the ability to wreak havoc.
Instead, I think this is authentication preference issue. Open up ESM, navigate to the HTTP properties of your OWA server (Administrative Groups | <Administrative Group Name> | Servers | <Server Name> | Protocols | HTTP | Exchange Virtual Server | Exchange). Right-click -> Properties on Exchange, click the "Access" tab, and click the "Authentication" button. Type in the default domain under "Basic Authentication." Users will now only have to specify their username, and not their domain. IIS will infer from the "default domain" setting that they are logging in from the domain you have listed. Do not edit the HTTP settings from within IIS. [ March 31, 2003, 05:23 PM: Message edited by: atguilmette ]

I am having an authentication issue. I set the default domain in ESM, but my users still have to use domain\user to log on. I may have input the settings in IIS before using ESM. My guess is that they may be out of sync? How can I get this set back correctly? Thanks

Has this issue been resolved for this user? I have the same problem and have followed the steps suggested and am still having the same problem. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks for your help,
Paul

Are the people having this issue using Froms login or loging in through the pop up box?

I am using a pop-up box to log in.
We have 2 exchange servers. One of them allows me to log in using just the username but the other doesn't. I have looked and it seems like the settings are identical. This is pretty frustrating.
any ideas?
Paul

geee can someone post the relevant solution pleazzze, yes there is a way to NOT_NOT_NOT use forms auth and still avoid having to type domain\username - it has to do with whether the exchange is running on a domain controller or not. The issue at hand ONLY occurs when the server is NOT running on a domain controller, which seems to be the majority of the cases. If exch2003 is running on DC then users are never required to type the domain name. I saw the fix over a year ago but now I need it again so to clarify-- a remedy is required to avoid typing domain\user when NOT using forms auth and when the exchange is running on a non-DC Thanks
