I have what I hope will be an easy question. I am installing a new exchange 2003 server on new 2003 server. This install will be into a windows 2000 forest that currently has an exchange 2000 server.

My first question is, will running forest/domain prep affect the current exchange 2000 server? Will the installation of a 2003 exchange server affect the 2000 server? I need this keep running unaffected, the plan is to run them both for a while (until symantec comes out with antivirus for 2003) and then migrate the mailboxes to the new 2003 server (which is new hardware).

Thank you in advance.

Follow up question - when I get to the "new organization" or "join a 5.5 organization", which do I choose? I want to to join the existing 2000 organization.

Hello Sebastißn Bianchi,

Running ForestPrep/DomainPrep in the current 2K domain will extend the schema etc., but won't have any negative effects on your environment whatsoever.

So don't worry [Big Grin]

Remember you minimum should run SP3 on all your 2K servers.

Excelent! Thank you. How about the follow up question, what do I choose during the install of exchange 2003?

Sebastißn-
It shouldn't prompt you again because there can only be one Exchange Org in AD, and when setup starts it will query AD to see if an Org exists already or not.
