I just migrated from Ex2000 to Ex2007.
We are starting to get legal requests for ediscovery for mailboxes on the Ex2000 system from say, 3 years ago.  That data is on backup tape.
How can I retrieve that data?  I realize I can restore the actual files, but is there an application that can then search the restored database without my having to recreate my entire exchange structure? There will be various versions of Veritas/Symantec Backup Exec involved.  I assume a 3rd party tool will do this, but I haven't found the one that specifically states this.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Are you looking at a tool that would search within the EDB/STM file without mounting them on Exchange box ? Microsoft cannot do this since it requires MAPI Access to the stores ? Let us check if some one can actually post any such tool ?

You could look at the site of On Track - i am not sure they could do this - but still go through their site - you never know - you may hit a jackpot
