hello there,
maybe you can help me.

exchange 2000 SP3 on SBS 2000
Symtoms
outbound smtp queues witch are empty do not close and stay active
some messages to one domain are delivered, others not
i guess that this behavior holds up the other mail queues

i reinstalled the smtp service
reinstalled exchange (it was strange that i had to /forestprep and /domainprep before reinstalling)
checked services and dns config (seemst to be ok, because for example mails to @gmx and @hotmail are delivered without delay)
working on this issue since one week

any ideas how to fix this problem?

Are you trying to say we have email delay issues to specific domains?

Please provide more information, like firewall, modem, router, switch details. Domains email cannot be sent or delayed. Event logs indicate anything?

sorry

network is behind a cisco firewall witch works fine.
internet modem is from zyxel by the ISP

i testet outbound smtp with telnet. when i start telnet smtp.domain.com 25 i receive answer but as soon as i try to connect with ehlo or helo the
connection is closed bei the remote host.
mails to some external domains work fine (gmx, hotmail)
mails to other domains wont be send OR:
smtp connector is empty but active and does not close.
mail in internal domain works fine

and yes, there is delay or even a non delivery report after 2 days

Thanks for the inputs...

Are you seeing any ***********220********** when you telnet smtp.domain.com 25 to an MX of an external domain?

If yes then refer to KB320027 and fix your cisco. I am sure this will resolve your issue.

Please provide NDR if the above does not help.
