We are seeing the following events very frequently in the logs of all our e2k3 servers. We haven't scanned the M drive or the databases with AV. Does anyone know why these show up or if they can be safely ignored?

-thanks

Yes, I am getting the same errors. Not much help in Technet other than this could be related to Anti-Virus software.

Anyone run into this?

I have had a ticket open with Microsoft for a few weeks now regarding this error. We have not had any success in fixing it.

there are several possible causes- blackberry server, goodlink server, older (and varying versions of CDO.DLL on the different servers), add-ins for outlook (Microsoft asked if we had users using FranklinCovey add-ins). They also had me update Outlook 2002 to SP3 (with all of the post SP hotfixes) and run it with the following switches:

/cleanfreebusy
/cleanreminders
/cleanviews

I ran an ISINTEG as well. They have switched from a client to server issue and back a few times. It's now been escalated from PSS to whoever is above that. Have a call with them today at 1pm.

I am curious- the user names that appear in the 8230- what version of outlook are they using (including the SP level).

I have not seen this with any Outlook 2003 users (yet).

DoakC: Thanks for all the info. Originally I have found the above errors after a user complained about losing calendar data on a weekly basis. He is running Outlook XP.

Interestingly enough he requested to have Franklin Covey software installed on his laptop few day after.

I wonder if he tried to install that software on his own previously (given that he found out local admin password) but was not succesful. This is just a wild guess anyway....

We have users complaining about losing calendaring data as well. Franklin Covey is not a player here as our users do not have it installed.

What version of XP are they using? If you do HELP and ABOUT, the version is listed. What is the full version? It should be something like 6515.XXXX.

6515 is SP3. The X.X.X.X represent the post SP3 fixes.

Thanks for the feedback!

My users are not running the Flanklin Covey add-in, but they are all on outlook 2002, sp2. We have blackberry, but they aren't all BES users. So far, all appear to be OWA users.

Microsoft was very focused on the blackberry at first. They had me put a updated (hotfix) version of cdo.dll on the BES as well as our Goodlink server. Didn't help. They said it did not matter that the users showing up with the 8230 were not BES users.

They also said we should be at SP3 of Outlook 2002 with all hotfixes. I have not seen this issue with a 2003 user (yet).

We use OWA heavily. We have one server that holds mailboxes that are only accessed through OWA. We do not see any of these issues on this server.

When issue first ocurred I put SP3 and all available pacthes for that user. He is the only one who has this issue in the orgnaizatio (500+ users). Occasional OWA use and no Blackberry's.

He syncs his Palm (calendar and contacts) with Outlook.

We are planning Office'03 rollout this summer, so maybe that will be the final solution to this problem. DoakC, Let us know if anything new come out of your call with MS today.

I recently also got these kind of problems (calendar, notes, contacts, being deletedon the exchange server). I found out that this was created by using the new version of Symantec Mail Security for Exchange (version 4.6). I don't know if you use that kind of software in your exchange server. but taking a look at the antivirus would be a good idea.

I have the same problems and couldn't find a hint.
I figured out, that all users, having the problem, are notebook user with offline folders and a synchronisation with a palm. The appointments either came from a notebook user with offline folders or the receiver was with offline folders. We have no software like franklin installed and using Outlook 2000 SR1.

Keep us up to date, what MS suggests [Wink]

Right now they are just auditing our environment. The guy I am working with said it's happening at a few sites and they are trying to gather as much info from as many companies as possible to pinpoint why it's happening. I will let you know if we make any progress.

Well here is an update for you.

We are still gathering information on this process, and still trying to narrow it down to client or server.

Something we have noticed is that if I move a mailbox that is shooting out the 8230s to another server or to a new store on the same server the messages go away for that user.

I was wondering if anyone else could try this and let me know the results?

Same issues here..
Have been previously working with Microsoft support on issue where Updated reoccuring Calendar items fail to update with error message "This function cannot be performed" and/or "This meeting is not in the calendar, It may have been moved or deleted".
Also have random users claiming calendar items are disappearing..
Mine seemed to be with Exec's having Delegates to their calendars, but now seems to be affecting others lately..

I have Ex2k3/Win2K3/Outlook XP SP2&Sp3's/Frontend Ex Server with 2 backend Ex Servers..
Only one Ex Backend server is showing the 8230 & 8206 errors.
I have moved 1 mailbox of a problem user with no effect on the issue.

This is the first forum I found talking about this.. I found it by searching the server event error's.

On the phone with Microsoft for 3 hours..
Tech wants to close case on this work-around?
1. Delete affected calendar item entire series from problem Outlook Client.. (Not just single occurance, because I couldn't..)
2. Reforward original meeting from Organizer to problem client and Accept meeting..

It has worked a couple of times but.. this is not a fix..

So far this is all I have found on the subject. I have yet to test it to see if it actually works.

I think what I posted was in regards to OWA so it may be of no help what so ever. My apologies if that is the case.

Here's my take on the original post:

Blackberry, Blackberry, Blackberry.

I have the same issue which was introduced and has been growing right along with the number of blackberry users we have.

We're running 3.6.3 currently and plan to go to BES 4.0 sp1 soon.

I really hope and expect this to remedy this problem [Roll Eyes]

(I'm not much of a fan of RIM's software at the moment...hoping 4.0 version is a major improvement).

We don't have Blackberry's or any other Exchange plugin (other than owa) and experience this issue..
We have users with Palm PDA's.. Could be a Calendar sync problem with secondary calendars..

We applied hotfix KB892234 supplied by Microsoft this past Saturday, ran offline defrag and isinteg (fix)check.. some items showed "repaired"
Things "seem" to be more stable, excdo error's have dropped off (have only seen 1), but i am not holding my breathe..

-L
PS: Have the Exchange 2k people seen the Registry entry KB article and the virus program scanning the mysterious M: KB..? They did not pertain to me with Ex2k3..

This ticket is still open with MSFT. They gathered a good deal of information this past week (memory dumps, etc). Hopefully they will be able to resovle soon.
