hi foks,

I'm also setting up a test environment for a Exchange 2000 DR.
Only our situation is different. We 're running a 2 cluster nodes and on the second node exchange is installed. We want to take the Exchange from the cluster to a dedicated server.
To build up the test environment we installed a replacement server with the same settings and naming.
After that we restored the AD in restore mode(F8) with NTbackup. We especially don't want to join the replacement server(DC) into the AD to prefent any complications into the AD production environment.
After a reboot we want to install Exchange, but the following message appears:

a problem has been encountered while loading the setup components

the solution from microsoft is not working. What can we do to solve the problem?
Do we need to install other options before we start with the installation of Exchange 2000?

Okay..no response so far. Is it that difficult?!?

Anyways....forget the error message. I will ask the question differently.

situation:
2 cluster nodes
2e node Exchange must be a dedicated Exchange server 2000
No direct connection with AD.

Which actions must be preformed to make a test environment?

I know there documents from microsoft that will tell you how to restore exchange from a cluster node, but these documents use a direct AD connection.
