Hi all,
hope someone can help, we are trying to install
exchange 2k on a 2k member server in a 2k3 AD environment (interim mode, could this be the problem?).
When we do setup.exe /forestprep, we get the exchange wizard, when we select action, then forest prep, then we get an error: The component "microsoft exchange forest
preperation" cannot be assigned the action "forestprep", -Setup is unable to access the windows active directory-failed to lookup the windows 2000 site to which this computer belongs. Please verify that your computer is configured with correct site information and is in a win2k
domain where a domain controller is reachable.
The 2003 servers are running in interim mode, they can all see each other, the 2k machine is logged in to AD using an admin account i.e. user@xxxx.com, and is located in active directory, has schema and domain admin rights.
We must have missed a basic step but not quite sure what it is.
Any help much appretiated

Hello davide,

Are you running the lastest service packs on the Exchange 2000 Server (both OS and Exchange) ?

Hi Henrik,
The 2k server is patched to service pack 4, the 2k3 servers are fully patched as well.
This will be a vanilla install of exchange onto a 2k srv box (were migrating from groupwise to exchange), from your comment should we have exchange 2k already in ad 2k or is there a patch that can be installed for exchange before installation.
