i currently have exchange installed on a w2k2003 server, but we just purchased another server, i want to keep the name and ip of the current exchange for the new server. do i need to ghost the old server and ghost that image to the new

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

hi mate,

I believe that you have Domain Controller on a different server and exchange on a member server.

> when you installed Exchange applicaiton it will get stored in AD configuration partition which keep the track of exchange information along with the server name. so here is following step you need to do:

> Take the full backup of your exchange database
> Take the old server offline
> Reset the computer account in the AD
> Bring the new server online and keep the same server and ip address
> Then run Setup /disasterrecovery
> Install the service back
> restore the database
