i have a problem in my exchange 2000 server, it is pop3 service not working.
i tryed many times to start it but it is not working.!

Please help my whole internal mail system stopped.

My internal network users call me saying that their internal mail is not send/receive any mail, when i check my exchange server i found that The (Exchange POP3 service) not working!!  i tried to wake it up(start) but it failed , i checked all the dependant services they are all working except the Exchange information store (stopped) , I tried to start it but it did'nt.

what should i do!

when you try to start the pop3 account service what is error message you are getting and what is the event generated in the application log.

Error message: Could not start the Microsoft Exchange POP3 service on local computer.
Error 1068: The Dependancy service or group failed to start.
Application Log: Error source :MSExchange FBPublish
                         Description: Error initializing session for virtual machine MAIL. The   error number is 0x8004011d. make sure Microsoft Exchange Store is running.

Note: I tried also to start Information Store service but it does not working out.

When you said you tried to start information store it won't work means what, information store is not starting at all?

If not what is the error message it is giving out both in service and application log.

have you tried to start the information store by checking "do not mount the store at start up"

Check the state of the database by running this command esutil /mh "path of priv1.ebd" and same command for pub1.edb.

please clear the application (save it and clear)

Then try to start the information store by selecting "do not mount the store? and give me the output. if it is passed i.e if it able to start then again clear the application and uncheck "do not mount the store" and try to start.

Whever it fails that time whatever the event id is generated in the application please paste that one.

Even you run EXDRA tool (I guess you can get it from www.exbpa.com) and try to resolve if you find any error and not able to understand pls paste that one also

sorry, but i found that the x- I.T manager was using beta version for Information store.
that was in the message of application log.

Really thank you for  your help but i think it will be very tough to find original copy and re-install it from the scratch.
