Hi all,

My Exchange server isn't receiving yahoo mail.  I currently run Windows2003 with Exchange2003 sp1.  I can send and receive mail to other domains.  I can also send to yahoo mail accounts, but cannot receive anything from yahoo accounts.  This is for all user accounts on my server.  The Yahoo sender gets a bounce message "failure message - could not find mail exchanger or IP address".  Is there something in Exchange that is set to block yahoo?  Thanks all.

Was anything removed or installed?

In the NDR (bounce message), is an IP address displayed to where the message attempt was made?  Have you changed your MX record recently?  Verify your MX record with your DNS provider.

Also, answer the questions that madcow posed.  How long has this been happening?  Has anything changed within your environment coinciding with the problem?

I attempted to send a message from Yahoo, which failed with the message you supplied.  I also attempted to send a message from Hotmail, which didn't bounce.  Please reply to any message you may have received.

Hey uemurad,

Got your hotmail email, but nothing from your yahoo on my exchange.  Does it say the same error message? Sorry, I couldn't find a mail exchanger or IP address. (#5.4.4)
any ideas why this is happening?  This might be the only domain I can't get email from.  Haven't heard any other complaints about not recieving email from other domains.  TIA

The NDR I got from my Yahoo address was just like what you described.
I don't have any thoughts on what can be causing it at this time.  There are a couple more tests I'll perform now.  Reply if you receive the messages.

All,

We went through a bunch of things outside the forum, but weren't able to resolve this issue.  If anyone recognizes that Yahoo "bounce" message, please chime in!  When I attempted to send a message from Yahoo, I got that same NDR.  It comes from Yahoo, not Exchange.

As far as I understand it... Yahoo does not allow for mail forwarding to Exchange.  I looked into some time back and that was the answer I found.

He (and I) weren't trying to forward.  I went to my Yahoo mail and sent a message to his Exchange which fails with that NDR from q-mail send (shown in the thread).  I can send to my own Exchange fine.

Mamu,

Not sure what you mean by blocking the yahoo domain.  All accounts on my exchange server cannot receive yahoo email.  And working with uemurad, it seems that it is the only domain that is getting bounce back.  I don't think it even hit my server.  Yahoo can't resolve the name or IP and replys back with undeliverable.

This may or may not be useful...

Your problem does look DNS-related (ie Yahoo can't resolve an MX for your domain). Interestingly, when I look at your domain using

http://www.demon.net/toolkit/internettools/

I see that the MX for nyoung.net points to:

mail.nyoung.net

and, furthermore, that Demon resolve this to 64.142.6.100

If I attempt a connection that IP on port 25, I can connect to your mail server fine.

However, from my mail server if I attempt a connection to mail.nyoung.net on port 25 it can't connect - if I try to resolve your hostname to an IP it doesn't work. So, looks like Yahoo and my ISP's DNS have the same issue - we're not able to actually resolve the your MX to an IP.

There are two possiblities.

1: check your dns configuration
2: if you are using firewall then it's definitely a problem with firewall b'caz i also faced the same problem

Balms - can you send an email from your mail server and let me know if it bounce back also.  Not sure why the name resolves sometime and not another.
Anil537 - what I'm I looking for in my DNS configuration.  My DNS server is only for my LAN, I use a nameserver from my domain provider for WAN.  No firewall here.

Thanks all for the replies.
