I recently got the new Apple iPhone 3G and tested the Exchange feature and have to say that Apple did a better job on this than Microsoft did with Windows Mobile: it is truly easy to setup and works flawlessly getting the emails even faster than on my desktop!
Responding to the emails is really fast too. I was skeptical about the Exchange integration, however they passed with flying colors!

Maybe I was lucky, but my experience has been very good and it offers me all the features
I need while on the road: mail synch, contact synch, and calendar synch.
All 3 items worked flawlessly and the synch using 3G was extremely fast.
I am able to respond and the emails are send immediately.
I noticed my emails appear before on my iPhone and Outlook afterwards (because of the caching part).

Emails appearing before they do in Outlook is very common. It happens with Windows Mobile and Blackberry. You see the odd question asking why or whether it can be slowed down. It is simply because the email message is picked up by the application (whether EAS or BES) before Outlook.

I switched from the Windows Mobile 5 to the Apple iPhone 3G and have to say, Apple did a much better job on making this a lot easier than Microsoft!

I would hope there would be a difference considering that Windows Mobile 5 is almost three years old and was the first decent version of Windows Mobile with push support. You are hardly comparing like with like.
If you want to compare like with like then you need to look at a modern Windows Mobile 6.1 device.

Who says you cannot upgrade your phone.
For a start all the manufacturers for the WM offers upgrades. Infact my HTCs have all been upgraded from 5 to 6 and a couple of 6.1.
Also a number of operators also offer the upgrades for free.
I agree with Sembee. You are no where comparing like with like. Check out Windows Mobile 6.1 and the iPhone will look like a toy next to it.
When it comes to the Enterprise the WM6.1 beats anything hands down. If you are looking for a teenage device to show off to your mates than maybe the iPhone would work...but it is no where an Enterprise Messaging Device.

Who says you can't upgrade? My carrier:

When I went with my PPC-6700 (which had WM5), I was told that doesn't apply to my unit.
So I speak from personal experience about upgrades not being possible. As for the capabilities of the iPhone, I am happy with the features that it can do and wouldn't ever go back to Windows Mobile...still remember how programs would lock the phone up and I had to reboot...by the time it came back up, the ringing has ended...
So it shouldn't be any surprise why I switched away from the WM platform.

This is not a pissing contest so its best we end it here.
You clearly like the iPhone because of the iPhone's multimedia features.
You have not even looked at WM6.1 but you still try and talk about it.
Check around there are 100 of forums that will show you how to upgrade your phone's OS. You dont have to keep going to your carrier for that.
The iPhone is not an exterprise poduct and never will be.
If you get a chance, go and get a WM6.1 device and then compare it against your iPhone. How can you compare a WM5 to it, it is stupid. WM5 was 2003 technology, at least get the 2008 version before you speak.
Lets end the pissing contest now and hopefully when you do actually put your hands on a WM6.1 device you can than give your INFORMED opinion.
