I planned to setup a intranet/internet mail server by
using Exchange Server5.5.

I did a plain installation of E.S.5.5.

After the installation,i didn't know how to proceed??

What is to be configured to send mails to the local users and to internet users.

Could you help me to configure or please let me know the best resource for the beginners.

Some great resources can be found in a number of places. If you are looking for something that is online I would honestly recommend that you go to www.microsoft.com/exchange ...if you are looking for some good books on Exchange I would recommend two excellent books that I personally use and like. One is the book from Orielly called Managing Microsoft Exchange Server (www.oreilly.com)...or go out to amazon.com and get the Sybex book about Microsoft Exchange (geared to passing the ms test...but it has alot of useful info for beginners). Hope this helps some.

In order for you to be able to send mail to the users on the internet you will have to Internet mail service. this can be done by:

go to file in Exchange admin and choose New Other and then choose Internet Mail service.

the Wizard will help you through the rest.
