According to Microsoft's TechNet, I have to apply a hotfix to NT enterprise before installing Exchange Server 5.5 Enterprise Edition. I know how to get hold of it but our engineer MAY have already installed it.

(He's now gone)

Question is, "How do I find out if the appropriate hotfix has already been installed on the server?"

Any help, greatly, greatly appreciated!

Usually an article in KB will list the files and their versions that are included in a hotfix. See what they are in the article, then check them on the server, and see if they are the same version. That's the only thing I can think of. Installing the fix again won't hurt anything.

2 ways

1 - using regedit or regedt32, access registry at following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft\WindowsNt\CurrentVersion \Hotfix

All hotfixes will be listed here (by their Microsoft KB article)

2 - Open the \WINNT directory, ensure to 'Show all files' from the menubar (View-->Options). There will be folders visible $Qxxxxxx$ which are the hidden system uninstall directories for each installed hotfix.
