Hi,

Our ISP currently host's our company website (mycompany.org.uk) we don't
have any server's that live on the internet our NT4 Exch 5.5 server dials
our ISP every 15 minutes to pull down mail this works very well but when we
go to 2k AD and 2k Exchange how can this work as I am led to believe it's
good practice to have your external and internal domain names different, we
plan to use a ficticious internal domain name mycompany.local I understand
2k exchange and 2k AD are tightly integrated. Will we be able to configure
our 2kdomain and 2kexchange to dial the ISP and bring down mail to a .org.uk
mail box?

Thanks!

1) Configure your internal AD domain as domain.local
2) Setup Exchange 2000 and create a new SMTP address on the default Recipient Policy of domain.com
3) Set this address as the primary address
4) Establish W2K (on the E2K server) to remotely access (dial) the ISP server
5) Configure Exchange to use POP3 (POP3 connector within SBS) or ETRN/TURN (SMTP Connector)

This is as close as its going to get to using Dial-up in E55

A great starting poing for step 4 is http://support.microsoft.com/

Q244734 - How to Enable Automatic Logon to a RAS Server
Q308208 - HOW TO: Install and Configure a Virtual Private Network Server
Q300434 - HOW TO: Allow Remote Users to Access Your Network in Windows 2000
Q259375 - HOW TO: Install and Configure Telephony Server for Client Access

As for Step 5, http://support.microsoft.com/
Q294736 - XCON: When to Create SMTP Connectors in Exchange 2000
Q319426 - HOW TO: Configure the SMTP Connector to Link to Internet Domains
For complete information, try searching google.com (Etrn & "Exchange 2000")

If the Windows 2000 server does not work out for dialing, try using a dial-capable router to perform the connecting function.
