keno17@msn.com -> exchange 5.5 in mixed mode during migration (10.Feb.2003 12:50:00 AM)

I am planning to move out network which has one domain, to win2000 server and evetnually to exchange 2000. However, while we are migrating our servers to win2000 Domain Controllers and Active Directory, will exchange 5.5 continue to run on NT 4.0 within this domain under mixed mode? In other words, once the NT 4.0 PDC server has moved to win2000 DC and Active Directory, I will be running in mixed mode. I would like to leave exchange 5.5 on NT 4.0 for a few weeks before using a swing server to migrate that box to win2000 and exchange 2000. I cannot find or see any reasons why exch 5.5 on NT 4.0 in a mexed mode WIN2000 domain will not work as it did before moving any servers to win2000, can anyone else?

Thanks for any and all advice.

I am in exactly the same boat as above. What will happen to Exchange 5.5 sat on NT4.0 box, after upgrading PDC to windows 2k DC mixed mode environment? Will the Active Directory Connector need to be installed and configured for all to work properly?

Hi,

It will work as you now have 2 different directories.

PDC Becomes the DC ( Marked as GC)
Exchange 5.5 Directory Still continues to exist.

Use a AD Connector from Exchange 2000 SP3 and ensure that the user in AD is mapped to his equivalent Mailbox.

Ensure that the PF and the DL CA's are created seperately ( initially from Exchange - windows) and later make it bi-directional.

Should Co-exist as long as what you have mentioned in the trail is accurate
