agcoony -> exchange 5.5 to 2k...different setup (21.Nov.2003 5:01:00 PM)

I just started a new job...My first task is to upgrade exchange 5.5 to 2k. No problem, I thought. Until I inspected the network and found out that they have set up active directory as a seperate domain...Now I have exchange on the pdc in one domain and active directory in another...Two seperate domains. I am looking at removing active directory and doing the normal upgrade of the domain which won't be to bad except for permissions to files and folders. I wanted to see if anyone else had run into this scenario and if there were any suggestions...I know I could make everyone create a pst file and then install exchange 2k in the new organization and then move the mail back from pst but I don't want to do that. Any suggestions??

A lot of pieces to this puzzle are missing. However, a fairly simple solution would be to install an E2K server in the AD domain, make a two-way shortcut trust between the two domains, install the ADC, and use the ADU&C to move mailboxes.

Like i said originally, there are a lot of pieces missing. Which domain hosts the users, is the NT domain staying, has any of the prep work been done for E2K? Lots of questions need to be answered before your ramble out the gate!
