Hello,
I hope I am writing in the right place. I have this issue with moving about 100 mailboxes between two E2K SP2 servers inside the same organization, but placed in different Administrative Groups/Sites. The only way to do this right now seems to be exmerge. Does anyone know another way ?
thanx

Hello Dinu,
Actually, you can move mailboxes between administrative groups even if you are not in the Exchange Native mode. The trick here is to move more than one mailbox at a time...

AFAIK this is only possible with Exchange 2003 SP1.

Hello Henrick,
I have great respect for your inputs to this forum and your various writings - however, you are incorrect on this one. I have just accomplished this task on W2K SP4 running E2K SP3 on a member server in a domain. In the Exchange mixed mode, if you select only one mailbox to move, only your local site is "scoped" - but if you select multiple mailboxes to move, the entire organization is "scoped".

Hello Henrick,
Yes sir - it is indeed a nice to know item! I have been fooling around with NT from the get go and have been heavily involved with Exchange since the first release. Keep stumbling over these "little un-documented things" that MS just taunts us with...

@Bill Brown
I have checked what you said. So, in my case, when I selected 2 users, I found out indeed that Exchange allows me to select a different administrative group. BUT, the operation fails. The error is (quote): "This mailbox cannot be moved to a different Exchange 2000 administrative group while in a mixed Exchange 5.5/Exchange 2000 Organization."
If you can be so kind as to tell me how you did the migration in a non-native environment, I would very much appreciate it.
Thank you

Dinu & Henrick,
It is very well possible I owe an appology to you guys and the list. If Dinu did not make this work - then it will not work. It was very late at night when we were doing this last migration and I distinctly remember that selecting one user to move scoped only the current admin site and that selecting more than one user would scope the entire organization.
I thought we were moving the users to a different site - but in retrospect, maybe we were not. I appologize for any inconvience that I may have caused!

Bill,
You were right about the scoping. When selecting more than 1 user, the wizzard presents you with all the servers/admin groups in the Exch. organization. BUT this does not mean it allows you to move the mailbox between administrative groups. All mailboxes selected generated an error.
Thanks, Dinu
