quadputer -> outlook clients still querying old exchange (17.Apr.2005 1:38:00 AM)

I am quite at a loss to figure this out. Here is a general summary:

1. installed 2003 exchange server in an environment with a 2000 exchange server running.

2. synced all folders, moved mailboxes, etc.

3. all clients auth. properly to new server, time to unjoin/remove old 2000 exchange server.

Now, if the old machine is off the network completely, outlook clients are still broadcasting a netbios query for the old server hostname. If I put it back on the network, but still unjoined to the domain and with a different ip than before, outlook pops up a credentials box. If you hit cancel twice on this logon box, everything works fine. When the old server is off the network, outlook will hang while the workstation tries to contact the old machine for about 2 minutes (I assume 30sec timeout on each request). After that everything works fine. There are one or two workstations which are not having this problem
(out of about 50) but I can't tell any particular reason why. I have waited far longer than 51 minutes, and there are no custom lmhosts files on the workstations. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I would love to know the answer in case I can help someone else in the future. thanks.

Its to do with users profile usually, try deleting the old email profile first and create a new one and try again.
Alternatively, try creating a new user profile, copy an settings across and try Outlook again.

If using a profile generator, make sure that is updated with new server name in INI file.
