Hello,

I want to move an exchange 2000 server on compaq hardware to a dell server. I want to use the same computer name and IP address at the end of the procedure.

ALL doco i have seen to do this assumes identical hardware migration, or naming the exchange server a different name.

I want to move to different hardware with a same name.

Can anyone point me to a good doco on this?

In this case you do this:

1. Backup database and transactions logs to offline storage.
2. Do NOT remove exchange on original server. Just shut it down.
3. Install Windows + service pack on new server
and set up drives identical to old server.
4. Reset computer account for server and join server to the domain
5. Install Exchange using the disaster recovery switch to install exchange and keep settings:
setup /disasterrecovery
6. Install Exchange SPs and hot fixes
7. Restore databases and logs to new server
8. Mount databases.
9. It should now be up and running!
