Does rebuilding the Offline Address Book require a restart? Can it be done in the middle of the day with all the users logged onto the network and Exchange?

Oh well, I just took the chance and did it. With about 15-20 addresses, it took about 2 seconds and did not require a restart and did not affect any user. It also took care of my problem.

Windows Server 2003
Exchange Server 2003
Office 2003

Same error message here on Exchange 5.5 with Outlook 2k3.

I had this same problem, none of the above worked for me.

Last thing i tried was setting the properties of the Defaul offline adresslist to exchange 4.0 and 5.0 compatibility

One of my Outlook users had the same error 0x8004010F when synchronizing his mailbox.
The solution was:
1) Remove the checkmark from 'Download Offline Address Book' (OAB) in Send/rec. settings.
2) Download OAB from Send/receive menu.
3) Sync. w/ F9
4) Set the checkmark in 1)
5) Sunc. w/ F9

Done !

Dont forget to re-boot the Global Catalog server. That + re-building the Offline address book worked for me...

Win2k Server/ Exchange 2003 + Outlook 2003 clients.

I have rebuilt the Offline Address Book, rebooted the GC, to no avail. I had a 2k exchange server, installed a new 2k3 exchange, moved the stores, works great, but if i unmount/or down the old exchange i get the 0x8004010f error, but if i leave it mounted I do not. Can ya help a brother?

have you run dcdiag.exe from the microsoft support tools on the GC? that may expose any dns issues.

Exchange 2003/Active Directory (2003)
My Outlook clients and Exchange were getting along great together up until I went through a migration process. I had to switch the machines to run Exchange 2003, so I installed a new server and Exmerged all the boxes over and everything was dandy, up until I removed the first initial Exchange Server. To remove the first initial server I made the new server the Main Routing Master and assigned it to handle Recipient Update Services then uninstalled Exchange Server 2003 from the first server, this is when my Outlook 2k3 clients started getting the 0x8004010F messages. This seems something directly tied to the Public Folders, pre-migration can't be accessed but new folders made can be accessed. Any suggestions? (I've tried all the suggestions previous posted, however maybe the processes haven't finished yet since Exchange System Manager suggests it'll take a few hours).

This worked for me (Exchange 2003):

Exchange System Manager:
Goto Recipients->Offline Address Lists->Default Offline Address list, right click and select rebuild.

That's all. It works fine now.

SHAKA, Tried this and it worked fine on my Exchange 2003 server to. No error in outlook2003 anymore

I have the same problem because, i'd delete the first exchange server in my Organisation...
I read a lot of topics but nothing 's good for my case !
And i found this : build a new Offline address book and select it to be the default Offline address book. Don't delete the other one !
One day after, the 0x8004010f error message disappear ! And now, you can delete the bad Offline address book !
Easy !

I got rid of the error, after rebuilding the offline address book, started mailbox management process.

Check the following:
Properties of mailbos store, general tab, Offline Address Book. If there is noting there browse to the default offline address list.

Only this worked for me.

This is the solution that worked for me.

Right click Default Offline Address Book, properties, then see if there are any adress book listings inside (eg. Global List...), if none are in there, put some in (button Add) and that should work!

Okay...I know this won't be a popular answer, but when I had this problem I was in the middle of my migration. I called Microsoft and forked over my $250 (rolled it in with a few other related questions) and sadly I wasn't looking closely when they fixed this issue. BUT, at least I can assure you there is an answer. This was running exchange 2000 on a 2000 AD server box.

One easy way to fix the error is to take your mail profile out of being cached mode, the error will then go away. It's not perfect but it does stop the annoying error.

I was getting the same error and was able to resolve it. Going back to the 'Default Offline Address List', I went to the properties and actually browsed for my 'offline address list server'. Though it appeared to put the exact same name back in, this resolved the problem for me... just something else to possibly try.
