Hi Folks

I just posted a message about the problem I am having in my test setup and thought that in the interim I would grovel for some suggestions about configuration for when I roll-out the real version of the network.

The reason I am asking is that I am seeing conflicting information depending on which products guides I am looking at.

(Deploying Server2003, Exchange2003, SQL2000, ISAServer2000, using an ADSL connection)

One set of guides recommends the internal network be ABC.LOCAL

Another set recommends INTERNAL.ABC.COM

Where ABC.COM is the public domain name, which is handled by our DMZ network.

Is there any advantage of one over the other or is it effectively a matter of semantics?
Thanks in advance

I see no reason why you should/would need to create a .local domain, I always configure the real .com domain then establish a split-brain DNS, works without a glitch.

Be aware though you sometimes need to create records on your internal DNS server.

Thanks for that, but umm... 'Split-brain' is a term I don't recognise.

I don't recognise the term either but it's a perfect description for what you actually do with the internal and external DNS servers.
