DNS query failure - 25.Jan.2005 5:44:00 AM

This is a new Win2003 Server. It is the only dc and it is the only dns server. The only network it's hooked to is the internet.

All the necessary components are installed.
It gives me this error when I try to install exchange 2003:

"Setup is unable to determine the DNS name of this computer"

When I use this command:

nltest /sc_reset:DomainName

I get this error:

1355 0x54b ERROR_NO_SUCH_DOMAIN

When I do this command:

nltest /dnsgetdc:DomainName

I get this error:

ERROR: DNS query failure

Interestingly, when I do this command:

nltest /dsgetdc:DomainName

I get the whole list:
DC:
IP ADDRESS:
FOREST NAME:

And everything looks correct.

Did I miss a step with dns?
Was there something I was supposed to enter manually?

Did you give your server a static address with the Dns included?

Yes, it has a static IP.

In your protocol properties, is the static IP of your DNS server set as the first DNS server listed?

I did this with my first server in a new AD forest and couldn't see my domain groups. Once I added this IP as the first DNS server, the skies opened and sunlight shone down.... or something like that.. [Smile]

I would check the DNS config as it is not being able to contact the CG server.
Make sure your DHCP and TCP/IP settings are correct also.

Is your DNS registering? Check the Event Viewer logs as you may find that the _LDAP files are not being registered correctly.
