We are considering having one really big bad server and running VM Ware on it to have both the Front End and Back End exchange servers on one box.... Anyone have any experience with this ?

Any known issues ?

I think, the VMWare should used in testing purpose only, except if you don't need high performance.

I'v did test with Virtual PC/VMWare. The two are the best tools. [Smile]

There would be nothing to stop you running a physical Back End and put a virtual Front End somewhere.
Doesn't matter what virtualisation package you choose though, the supportability statements remain the same.

Although my experiences tells me it works quite well I only use virtual Exchange Servers in test labs, the primary reason being below MS KB article:

Support boundaries for Exchange Server on a virtual machine or on an emulation machine:
