Application log shows a lot of MSExchangeDSAccess errors, specifically:
-Process WINMGMT.EXE (PID)=996. Topology Discovery failed, error 0x80040a02.

-Process WINMGMT.EXE (PID)=996. Exchange Server XXXX.xxxxx does not have audit Security Privilege on Domain Controller XXXX.xxxxx. This domain controller will not be used by DSAccess.

Obviously my email server is down and I'm in a panic. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Problem solved, as the error messages suggested it was a permissions thing. I had to go to the default group policy on the domain controller and manually:

-At the domain controller open Active Director Users and computers.
- Right click on the domain container and click on properties.
-Click on the Group Policy tab, hi-light the default domain policy and click on the edit button.
-Expand the default domain policy tree: Computer configuration, windows settings, security settings, local policies, user rights assigned.
-In the right hand pane open the ôManage auditing and security logö policy.
-In my case I had to click on the Add button then the browse button, then find and select the ôExchange Enterprise Serversö user.
-Restart the Exchange server and things are working again!

Just curious. I think I am having the same problem. I just installed a new 2003SBS/Exchange2003 system and I can get any of the clients to connect. I get an error in outlook stating that the information store could not be opened. Do you think these problems could be the same issue?

By default the message store doesn't mount, that littel tidbit of info wasn't in any of my "How to" books or documents. Could that be the issue?

Woot
that was it for me
some one enabled auditing and exchange could not open the log files.
I granted the exchange servers group perms and it works
Thanks
for taking the time to post!
