I successfully installed SP1 and IMF on Exchange 2003.

I would like to find a specific message's SCL rating, so that I can determine what level to block at the gateway level.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

By default, when IMF archives a message, it does not archive the SCL rating assigned to the message. In order to accomplish this you need to create a registry key DWORD value, ArchiveSCL and assign it a value of 1.

See page 25 of the IMF Deployment Guide for details:
Intelligent Message Filter Deployment Guide

I will also do an article on IMF here on the site sometime in the near future.

I understand that. However, I have the gateway action set to "no action" and the mail box SCL level (not the gateway) is the one that is actually moving the messages to my Junk E-mail folder. There are a couple of messages in my Junk E-mail folder and I wanted to view thier SCL rating because they were definately moved there by IMF. After I find what the SCL rating is of these obivious spam messages, I will set the Gateway SCL rule to reject all messages that are "blatently" UCE.

What levels are your gateway and mailbox thresholds set at?

Interesting behaivior of Exchange 2003 IMF...

Topology:
  • SMTP E-mail comes through Symantec Antivirus and AntiSpam for SMTP Gateways
  • E-mail is then sent to our Exchange 2000 Server (in the process of decomissioning)
  • Mail is finally recieved by Exchange 2003 server and delivered to mailboxes.
I noticed that only internal e-mails were scanned by the IMF because I could view thier SCL rating. External e-mails (emails comming from outside locations) that go through the above process were not scanned by the IMF or given an SCL rating. I read in the IMF deployment guide that only e-mails that are sent from anonymous connections are scanned by the IMF (see the registry modifications pg 26) after making this modification I found that messages sent from outside are now assigned a SCL rating, but are not being moved to the Junk E-mail folder even though the SCL is higher than the mailbox threshold. My question is why?!?
Is there any ideas as to why this is?

I corrected this message by changing the order in which the Exchange 2003 server comes into play.

I moved the Exchange 2003 server 2nd in the topology so that messages are recieved from the "outside" and are scanned and moved by the IMF.
