(remove spaces from above)

I definitely have this problem

Exchange server 2003 sp1 running on windows server 2003 sp1.
I have 1 domain with 4 DCs w2k with 1 PDC and 3 ADCs.
2 of the DCs are located in the same location (DC1=PDC + DC2= ADC) with the
Exchange server and 2 in another location (DC3 and DC4). VPN in between
location.

Every 3 days I'm receiving error messages about connectivity to the other 2
DCs (across WAN). Never related to the DCs within the same LAN.
Finally Exchange crashes. I have to restart twice and then everything comes
back to normal for the next 3 days. Absolutely no errors during those 3 days.

LDAP Bind was unsuccessful on directory dc3.domain.com for distinguished
name ''. Directory returned error:[0x55] Timeout.

The MAD Monitoring thread was unable to read its configuration from the DS,
error '0x80040a01'.

Metabase Update failed to read the Configuration namespace property from the
domain controller. Error code is 80040a01.

he Win32 API call 'DsGetDCNameW' returned error code [0x54b] The specified
domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. The service could
not be initialized. Make sure that the operating system was installed
properly.

NSPI Proxy can contact Global Catalog DC4.domain.com but it does not support
the NSPI service. After a Domain Controller is promoted to a Global Catalog,
the Global Catalog must be rebooted to support MAPI Clients. Reboot
DC3.domain.com as soon as possible.

Background thread FDoUpdateCatalog halted on database "First Storage Group\Mailbox Store (EXCHANGESERVER)" due to error code 0x80004005. -> here exchange server crashes

Background thread FDoUpdateCatalog halted on database "First Storage Group\Public Folder Store (EXCHANGESERVER)" due to error code 0x80004005. -> here exchange server crashes

I checked the VPN servers (Borderware FW) and everything seems to be OK.
I monitored and checked the DCs for weeks. No errors.

How can I obtain the hotfix before Exchange SP2 is out?

Does anybody know a workaround?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Andrei G

This hasn't actually got anything to do with exchange per-se.

If you do have the problem then contact your local MS Support. They will want to take an agreement or credit card number but if you do indeed have the problem you will not be charged for the call, or the hotfix, or have the call deducted from your list of support incidents.

Thank you Mark.
This is what I'm going to do.
I have created that MTU key in the registry as the article describes and now I'm waiting to see if this new setting solves the problem.
If not I'm going to call MS.

Regards,

Andrei G
