I noticed that naming my server "x" leads to problems when accessing shares. Probably because of too short name?

I have found a guide on how to change the name of the server (which is also a domain controller/dns server). The question is:

Will changing the name on the server affect the Exchange installation? Do i need to update exchange in some way after i change the name?

You cannot change the name of a server running Exchange.

Ouch...

Are you sure? (that there are no update scripts or anything similar)

Is it possible that theres an other reason than computer name that causes permissions to shared folders not work properly when accessed using \\computer\ but work properly when accessed using \\ip-address\?

When i use \\computername\share\ i only get "everyone" permissions, even when accessed as admin for instance.

When i use \\10.0.0.1\ (ip-address) permission is working normally. [Confused]

If your having problems with shares because your computer name is too short, why not create an longer DNS alias that points to the IP address?
