Hi all. Sorry if this sounds easy but I give up at this stage.

Basically all I want to do is allow another user the "send as" permission on another mailbox. It's a secetary thats wants to send mails as if from the boss.

I only have 1 DC.

I have followed the MS articles on how to do this, which advised in active dir to select "view" from the toolbar and select "advanced features" and then the security tab appears on the mailbox in question. Then it says to add in the user giving them "send as permission" ensuring the correct box is checked.

Unfortunately It just doesn't work and i would be grateful if anyone could explain in simple step by step how to do this task before I get the boot!

Many thanks,
V

I assume this is the one you've followed?
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=327000
It does work, but does take a while to kick in, regardless of your only having one DC.
If it doesn't work then we'd need to know a little more about what permissions are assigned to both accounts.

Well unfortunately it still hasn't worked. The error msg is "you do not have permission to send mail on behalf of the specified user".

To get myself out of a hole I just gave her domain admin rights and it worked fine and have since removed her once the group once the mail was sent but no doubt it will crop up again so need to get this sorted. Obviously it must be some permission issue.

What should I check in terms of permissions?

Hi All,

I have exactly the same problem with a client running SBS 2003. Administrator rights solves the problem as stated - however this is not a particularly nice solution! I have been troubleshooting this problem for a while myself - and this is the first description which relates specifically to my situation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes I too Dan have been looking into this for weeks without a solution.

Also I notice that when you add in a user to the security tab and give "send as" permission the user disappears as apparantly AD resets it's permissions every hour. Weird but this is whats happening me.

It's amazing there is nothing on the web about this,I can't figure out why no one else has this problem...well except you Dan! ANYONE PLEASE HELP!

I can confirm that the user is being removed from the security tab (for "send as" permission) as well. I know this doesn't help you Big Irish Bear, but it's also happenening to me. I can't believe that it would only be affecting the two of us though !??

If anyone else has resolved this issue please post it, it's a massive hassle at the moment.

Thanks agian

Dan

Dan,I have figured it out.....feel a bit sily really but the trick was to follow the msknowledge base link I posted step by step...

I missed the part when you select ad users and computers...then advanced......then select the security tab....then select "advanced" and add the user in there!

Good luck!

I have followed the article on an SBS2003 box and am expierencing the same issue. Permissions are granted, and remain on the account when I double-check, but users still cannot send as other users. Putting the user in the Domain Admins group has not effect. In fact, no user can send an email with anything in the 'From' field, even when it is their own default address.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also, I forgot to mention that I had created a special 'send As' group and applied it to the mailbox store as described in this article.

http://www.winnetmag.com/Article/ArticleID/42867/42867.html

This also did not help.

Hi ppl,

followed the steps in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327000/en-us
And have the same problem as you guys...
When I give the send as rights to a user, restart the information store, it works for a while. After an hour it stops working. When I then check the settings in AD it seems to be reset.
I've set the rights with the real "Administrator" account. Tried both with the normal security list add user ... and with the security tab advanced - add....
Can't give administrator rights to those people...
Any solutions for this issue???

tnx
Neok

Hello, I'm having the same problem. For reference used the doc http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=327000
Already saw other posts but none of them described the problem as this. Just another detail, I migrated from exchange 5.5.

hi,

solved it this way:
Removed the email address from my distribution group.
Created a new distribution group add the email address of my previous group. Add the same users as my previous group. Give those users send as rights. Now it still works after 48 hours

SOLUTION !

I troubleshooted this for hours until i found the solution "That worked for me and I hope it works for you".

I found the missing step from microsoft's article to be :
give permission as well to "send on behalf".
this made it possible for the assistant to send as the manager.
i didn't try the send on behalf if it works but at least my problem was solved.

good luck! [Razz]

Hi All -- This worked for me. The alternative, if the group membership is required, is to edit some registry keys filled with arcane values - and thus exclude certain groups from the adminSDHolders automated permissions check.

"Does your user belong to any of the following groups?
a.. Enterprise Admins
b.. Schema Admins
c.. Domain Admins
d.. Administrators
e.. Domain Controllers
f.. Cert Publishers
g.. Backup Operators
h.. Replicator Server Operators
i.. Account Operators
j.. Print Operators
Or does she belong to a group that's a member of one of these groups? These groups, and any group or user that's a member of them, have their
permissions reset by Active Directory every hour. For more information, see
KB 318180, "AdminSDHolder Thread Affects Transitive Members of Distribution
Groups" at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=318180.

If this is causing your problem, you'll have to change the user's group memberships to fix it."

Sorry But I am still stumped on this one. I thought I had it sorted as I mentioned earlier in the post but I'm back to square one.
Tis a right pain, surely there must be a solution.

By the way I wonder would SP1 for exchange help? have noticed lots of issues with adding mailboxes and the names not getting resolved in AD for 2 days. The only alternative I found was to reboot which automatically got them resolved when setting up clients.

Any help would be seriously appreciated. This msut be happening thousands of people?

G'day

Go to your AD, look up the person who wants to be sent on behalf, exchange general, delivery options - Send on behalf of - just add the name.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Okay it has taken me a while but the key is to ensure that when you go into advanced and add the permission you change the "apply to" drop down to be the "User Object"
