Hi,
I wanted to see if guys can help me with a problem I am having.

I am running 2000 SBS and 2000 Exchange. For some reason I can send and recieve email internally, and I can send externally, but when I send a message from an external computer back in, it gets bounced back to me saying that the message could not be delivered due to possible communications failure.

I am not the guy who set the server up, but I am working on the problem and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on things to check that might have been left out of the initial setup.

I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance! "[Cool]"

I have never worked with SBS so i do not know if there are any nuances to the product's features than the non SBS products.

That being said, the first place i look when i have an internal routing issue is DNS. Have you verified that you have a host record for your server and an MX record whose value is the hostname?

The second place i look would be a recipient policy. Is there one defined for your fdomain name?

If neither of these resolve the issue, I would start looking at the firewall, bad cabling, etc. It could be just a communication error indeed. but it is best to rule the others out as well.

Good Luck,

DC
