Can't quite believe how difficult it is to actually find setup instructions for this - I thought the primary use of Exchange for for e-mails???? anyway, we need to configure our exchange server to check for e-mails at our ISP and also send e-mails via our ISP. Any incoming e-mails need to be forwarded on to the relevant user on the network. we understand that you cannot use POP3 by default unless you purchase a pop3 plugin - why is pop3 not a standard choice in exchange? what is the RECOMMENDED way for sending and receiving/routing e-mails on Exchange - without any pop3 plugins????? thanks for any help

we'd be keen to host it ourselves and just use our ISP for SMTP - but again how do you set this up?????

Hi, if you want to forward your mails to your ISP you have to specifiy a Smarthost to your Virtual SMTP Server in the System Manager under Protocol. If you don`t want to take a 3rd party tool for downloading your mails from your ISP you can let your ISP make an MX record for your. Than all your mails will be directly forward to your exchange server and you don¦t need a pop3-downloader. To your question: why is pop3 not a standard choice in exchange? Exchange is himself a pop3server where you can pickup your mail with pop3/. Hope this helps you best regards Bj÷rn Bnrstinghaus
