A number of my users have intermittently been receiving NDR's indicating the following error:

You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator.
<mymailserver.mydomain.com #5.7.1 smtp;550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for externaluser@externaldomain.com>

What is odd about this is that they are merely trying to send legitimate mail to externaldomain.com (not relaying) and that this is only happening with this particular domain. Sometimes it goes through and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't go through they are still able to send to most any other outside domain (ie. yahoo, hotmail etc.) just not this particular domain. Very strange and very frustrating. Anyone with any ideas or suggestions?

Sounds like the remote site is denying any blank senders, including DSNs. At least on one of the SMTP servers on that side, which would explain why it may be intermittent. Check and see if they are blocking DSNs and/or blank senders.
