Maybe someone has seen this issue before.  I am trying to configure a Panafax DX-1000 Fax/scan machine on a windows 2003 network running Exchange 2003.  I cannot seem to get the configuration of the fax to work with exchange.  I receive SMTP error (invalid SMTP settings).  Basic config settings are: IP, SubMask, SMTP Server, GW, DNS, Hostname, email address.

In theory once programmed with the SMTP address users should be able to scan and forward the scan as an email to themselves.

Does exchange need to allow any additional perms for a fax or network scanner to have SMTP access?

You may need to set the IP address of the scanner into the SMTP virtual server as a machine that is permitted to relay off of it. Go into the properties of the SMTP virtual server, Access tab, Relay and add the scanner IP address.

Thanks...  I just found out that the fax/scanner is not supported by Exchange 2003, as it is an old version.
Thanks for your assistance
