John Fenton -> Mail stuck in SMTP queue (13.Oct.2005 10:46:16 PM)

The search feature on this site doesn't seem to be working for me, so my apologies if this has been addressed a 1000 times.

I have a client with an exchange 2003 server I have an exchange 2000 server.  I can send him emails without any problem.  His emails to me just sit in his outbound SMTP queue and don't go anywhere.

I've had him turn on SMTP logging on his server and I have also turned it on on my server.

My emails to him show up clearly in both logs, but I show no evidence in either set of logs that his server has ever attempted to contact my server.

He can ping my IP and my URL without any problem.  My URL resolves to the correct address when he does a ping.

dnsstuff.com shows both server up and running and no errors.

My reverse DNS is correct, his is wrong, but to the best of my knowledge I do not check for reverse DNS on my server.

He has no idea what to check next, and claims he has tried all the options that come up when you right click in on the queue.

I had him delete the files out of the queue, here is the NDR text:

Not to useful, if understand correctly it just means the email was deleted by the administrator.

My question... what's the next step?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

John

Can they send your server email manually (via telnet / command line)?

If yes then its a config on their end
         is only your server/domain?

If no then its something on your end
The error they get in the command should help a bit more

Hi

Does your MX record point to servers IP address.  use nslookup to confirm
