waltraud -> unable to create public folder in system manager (31.Oct.2005 4:55:58 PM)

Hello ground let me post my problem again:

There is no public folder accessible from the outlook clients at all.

Usually in the exchange system manager there is one public folder which type is "mapi-folder". The public folder store should point there.

I haven't got a problem with outlook - My problem is that I can't create a public folder with mapi-folder type (which is used for the public folder store) in the exchange system manager. Furthermore I can't mount or delete the public folder store.

I have compared the situation with an other small business server. There I have the public folder store, this is mounted and there exists the corresponding public folders with type is "mapi-folder".

My idea was to delete the public folder store and then try to create a new pubic folder store. Then I might be able to create a public folder with tpye "mapi-folder" structure an assign this new public folders structure to the public folder store.

But I can't create a public folder with type "mapi-clients" and I can't delete or mount the existing public folder structure.

I hope I could describe my problem a little bit better to understand.

kind regards

What happened to your default installation of public folders?  Did they ever work?  You must have a public folder tree created in order to mount a public folder store.  Did you delete the tree when you were trying to delete you public folder store?  I would not delete the default store.

Does a public folders tree exist in your folders container for you administrative group?

If not create a public folder tree, then you should be able to point your store to that tree then mount the store.

The default public folder tree in the only tree that is MAPI enabled/accessible.  Any additional public folder trees/stores are only accessible via an IFS client (web browser, NNTP client, etc.)

I read up on this tonight.  The following restrictions apply to deleting a public store:
  1. The store cannot be the only store that contains a public folder tree.
  2. The store must not be the default public store for any mailbox stores or users.
  3. Before you can remove a public store that contains system folders, you must select a new public store for those folders.
  4. If the public store holds the only available replica of a public folder, you will be warnedthat all data in that folder will be lost.

Hope this helps.  Now you should be able to delete that public store and create a new one.  Remember, when creating the new one, a public folder tree must exist first.

Hello Mike,

thank you for your answer.

Let me explain again - perhaps more shorter is better:

I have no public folder available in Outlook
There don't exist any public folders at all in the exchange system manager
I can create public folders but not default mapi-type ones which could be used by the public folder store (in the exchange system manager)
I can't delete the public folder store - there comes a message, that an object can't be found (maybe the public folders which the store may once used to point at)
I can't mount the public folder store
I can't point or assign or change the folders in the public folder store - in the property tab of the public folder store in the assigned public folders field is a name of public folders, which does not exist.

Does this make the problem better to understand?

kind regards
