Absorbine_Sr -> Exchange 12 64-bit Only? (15.Nov.2005 3:32:46 PM)

It is posted on Harold Wong's blog site that Exchange 12 will be 64-bit only. More here:

I can't find any other confirmation at this point.

The technet event today for SQL 2005 I went to said the same thing.

Exchange Server 12 will support both the 64-bit extensions and the dual-core technology, according to Lees' presentation.

I can't find anything online saying it's just 64-bit, but that's what the guy at the SQL launch today said as well, that Exchange 12 will be just 64-bit.

Confirmed. The press release is here:

And Eileen Brown in her blog is describing why:

http://blogs.technet.com/eileen_brown/archive/2005/11/15/e12_64bit_only.aspx

She does mention that during the beta phase both 32 and 64-bit versions will be available, so testers can compare for themselves. I like the idea but also can see it as a revenue generator for MS.

Definitely interesting.  Finally sales of 64-bit servers will start to become mainstream, and pricing will drop. I look forward to it...maybe it won't be too long from now when 32-bit is no longer even available, and people are looking to 128-bit computing :)

I have a server ready and waiting for it already :)

Correct "we" E12 BETA testers have access to both a 32-bit and a 64 bit version, but since I do most of my BETA testing in virtual environments anyway, it doesn't really matter if we only had access to the 64-bit binaries.
