jame01 -> Hosting POP3 on Exchange 2000 (29.Nov.2005 7:44:38 PM)

Hello All,

I currently have Exchange 2000 with SMTP connector. I would like to know what do I need in order to host POP3, so that user can access there email outside of the network?

Thanks

Enable the POP3 Service if you disabled it earlier on. Then make sure port 110 in your firewall/router points to your Exchange server. That's it really.

POP3 access is enabled on AD user objects by default.

You can test by telnetting servername 110 from an external client.

Hi,

Thanks for the information.  If the external user is blocking port 25, how will Outlook Express send send email over port 25?

Thanks

It won't unless you're allowed to send mail through an SMTP gateway or similar at your ISP.

Hi Henrik, Thanks for the information.   Do you know of any failover or replication software for Exchange 2000/2003?   I don't want to use cluster.  Thanks

There're quite a few on the market now, but one of the best is still NSI Software's Double-Take product:
