Hi all,
can someone please help a newbie.

i managed to get exchange 2003 running on my server with active directory and using a dynamic ip address programme. on new years eve it appears exchange got the hump and has stopped working. i can send mail from the clients to the outside world (relaying through my isp) no problem yet incoming mail appears to arrive at the server (the mailbox folder gains another entry) yet in the que it says 0 on all connectors and when i try to connect my client to the server it says it is up to date and does not recieve the mail i just recieved.
can some one please tell me what i need to do to solve the problem.
Short of reinstalling it again. this isnt a corporate system this is just a test platform to learn on really and my isp is ok with servers as long as we dont take the mick. and relaying to the isp's smtp server on port 25 is ok as well... any ideas stuck in a hole at the mo.
many thanks
jay

Not sure what you're saying here (apart from the fact that you must be English "mick" "hump")
Are you saying that the unread count in the inboxes increments but you don't see any messages or what?

Best plan is to use a fixed IP for the Exchange (it only has to be internal and you'll be doing port forwarding at the firewall) and then check to see what's running and mounted.

Need more gen.

hi mark yeah im english lol.
im using a dynamic ip address to connect the outside would to my router then everything on my side of the router is static ips. well the servers are anyway...

when you drill into mailbox store and then mailboxes you see the user accounts and that is where the numbers are increasing when i send myself emails (outside network) and i can send from the inside to the outside world fine...

does this clear a few things up, like i said im new to this and desperatly trying to find out why it has suddenly stopped.

thanks
jay

First thing I would do is to try to access the mailbox via OWA.
From inside your network type in Internet Explorer:
where exchangeservername is the name of your Exchange server.

If you can see the messages there, then I would create a new Outlook profile.

Are you using Outlook or Outlook Express?

Done anything with permissions lately. I've just taken counsel and it could be a perms thing.

i dont think so,
i set up another user and they cant get there mail either.
i did play with the settings for the 1st user but the 2nd user should just be a standard account.
i have norton antivirus corporate edition 10 could that have anything to do with it.. although it was working the other week..

counsel wades in...

ok, first thoughts: check the profile is Exchange not PST (probably not as it shouldn't make any diff).
send a test to both accounts using telnet to the internal IP from the LAN.
SMTP mailbox for the store with the accounts - is it empty? Again, a long shot.

Anything odd in the event log? Got a MOM you can point at it?

It certainly should not be yellow.
Lets have a go at disabling the A/V for a while shall we?

So the first job is to find the bounce message and post what it says. Then run the Exchange Best Practice Analyser www.microsoft.com/exchange and run it against the server.
It's an odd 'un

Anybody figure out a fix for this?  I've had this exact same problem as of the 18th and tried everything (that i can think of) short of reinstalling.  I have Norton A/V too, maybe there was something that autoupdated that is now in conflict?  And what does the yellow cylinder mean?

Hi There,
Yeah i got it fixed just after i purchased an email routing pack... but thats a different story.....

The yellow cylinder i still have and it is working so i guess its ok for now..

The thing i found was somehow the dns ip address was wrong... 169.168.1.2 and it should have been 192.168.1.2 not sure how or what changed it... but i eventully found it by chance.

It was in the smtp virtual server, delivery, advanced, configure.
It worked for me but its not to say you have the same problem...
Hopefully you do and its just been solved..

Im assuming you can send outgoing mail as i could....
have you got your smart host set up to point to your isp's smtp server..

Jay
